“Do not participate in discussions or any media that arouse sexual feelings. Do not participate in any type of pornography.” – For the Strength of Youth
I, ____________________, commit to not participate in any discussions or media that arouse sexual feelings. I will not participate in any type of pornography.
I find the way the general authorities speak of pornography to be very powerful; you can just hear the distaste in their voice. So, unlike usual, for today’s topic I went through Dallin H. Oak’s talk Pornography and pulled out as many descriptions of pornography as I could. I also put emphasis on ones I found particularly meaningful:
- A “Corrupting Influence”
- Evil
- “Warned against the danger”
- A “Serious Problem”
- “Many of you are being stained by it.”
- Wicked
- Actually, “Grossly Wicked”
- Abominable unto God
- Filth
- “Perverted“
- Those who conceal an addiction to pornography are “Like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.“
- Devastating
- “To be carnally minded is death“
- “Unholy and impure”
- It “inflicts mortal wounds”
- “Damaging hearts and souls to their very depths”
- “Strangling the life“
- An incalculable loss
- Impairing
- Eroding
- “Conscience is desensitized.”
- “Addictive”
- An “Indulgence”
- “They are deeply soiled by sin”
- “Terrible”
- “Enemy of righteousness“
- “Evil, downward descent into torment“
In addition to that list, I would like to share a 2:39 minute video that was sent out to all BYU-Idaho students entitled “Watch Your Step”:
